  23.         I'm looking for an ST program that will allow me to make
  24. backup copies of some commercial, copy-protected disk that I have.  I
  25. don't like using the originals and have had one go bad on me already,
  26. making me have to wait six weeks for the company to mail a
  27. replacement.  I've checked the atari archives and can't seem to find
  28. one; I have a feeling they've been kind of shunned around here due to
  29. the possibility of pirating.  If anyone knows any commercial titles or
  30. can send me a public domain program, it would be much appreciated.

  45. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to make drop-down menus in
  46. a window, like in the clipboard.acc that comes with Gemini?
  47. Is it legal?  Also, how did they manage to make movable Dialog Boxes?

  49. Also, I was thinking of purchasing STalker and STeno.  Does the current
  50. version of STalker fully support VT100 emulation and keep up with
  51. 19.2Kb?  Will it work with the Overscan mod?  Does anyone know
  52. if Revolver will switch between partitions with overscan activated,
  53. or between Mono and Color on a Multisync?  Thanks alot!

  84.         Has anyone out there seen any software product that could be used
  85. in producing animation on the ST (with somewhat more flexibility than, say,
  86. "Degas Elite" with the minimal color-switching stuff)?  I'm looking for
  87. something along the lines of "Aegis Animator" (which I saw for lesser 68000
  88. machines).
  89.         I'm not trying to make a desktop equivalent of "The Little Mermaid",
  90. just would like to sling some colorful moving characters around the screen
  91. for possible video use.

  113. Previously, everyone is looking at TOS for the problem.
  114. If it truely moved to Spectre, then it is in the intelligent keyboard.
  115. Not supprising, as it handles the mouse also, and mouse moves wake it up.

  118. Is it a program problem in the Keyboard computer.

  120. AN Afterthought.
  121. If the problem is in the keyboard, then if the machine state is saved
  122. (Switch-Back can do this, probably other switchers as well) and the
  123. CPU rebooted, and the program reloaded, then it should RUN well.

  167. I have a short (40 lines, with comments?) script called rnget that
  168. was posted a couple years ago. It's designed to automate the unpacking of
  169. shar files. It's very nice, leaving everything up to the "cut" line
  170. in a file named "READ_ME" and some other slick features. (Reads from,
  171. stdin, accepts an optional argument for the pathname to store the
  172. extracted files.

  174. I currently have a 20 line script that we run on terminator to archive
  175. the comp.sources & binaries postings. RIght now I'm using the C-shell,
  176. but I will probably rewrite it in awk sometime in the near future. For the
  177. moment all it does is put the pieces in the proper subdirectory and update
  178. the index; the next step is to scan the Keywords field and decode/repack
  179. collections. It's all pretty simple.

  181. Meanwhile, it's fairly simple to select a string of articles with the same
  182. subject using rn, and invoke a command for each article...

  205. That's funny, I've been using maccel2 with WP since late last year (when
  206. I finally got around to downloading the rainbow utilities).  I agree that
  207. WP screws quite a bit with the system, but you'd be amazed just how stable
  208. their latest update is.  By the way, I hadn't heard that WP has given up
  209. on the Atari; must have been recently, since my latest update came in
  210. September '89.

  221. I wish to describe a feature of TOS 1.4 that I have been forced to acknowledge.
  222. (You know, a feature is a bug that won't be fixed).

  224. TOS 1.4 desktop attempted to get the "current directory" straight to help
  225. finding RSC files.  This is what is left.
  226.  
  227. To show the problem:
  228. 1.
  229. At the desktop, open 2 windows on C:.
  230. In each window, open a different folder.
  231. 2.
  232. Call the windows A and B.
  233. The current window (foreground) is A.  the other one is B
  234. 3.
  235. Click on window B.
  236. Many programs in this window will not be able to run because
  237. they attempt to find a file in "the current directory", and
  238. a Dgetpath() will show that that is for window A.
  239. EX. MSH cannot find profile; Spectre cannot find driver; etc.
  240. 4.
  241. After this attempt to run has failed, usually a benign bomb, the
  242. desktop is refreshed, and the path is now corrected.
  243. Now the program will run if clicked on.
